Student dorm room12/19/2023 ![]() ![]() The reason this building is the way it is, is because there are enormous advantages in having a lot of undergraduates conveniently near one another and conveniently near everything else they like to be near. What else does he have to know, in your view? Well, if he knew more about it, he would have had more correct conclusions. What would you say to if you had the chance? In an interview with As It Happens host Carol Off, Munger dismissed McFadden's criticisms as "crazy suppositions by an ignorant man." Here is an excerpt from that conversation. Miranda called it dystopian. Dennis McFadden, a veteran California architect, quit the university's design review committee over the proposed building, calling it "unsupportable from my perspective as an architect, a parent and a human being," the Santa Barbara Independent reports. It proposes an 11-storey, 1.68-million-square-foot building housing 4,500 students, 94 per cent of whom would live in single-occupancy, windowless dorm rooms. That design for Munger Hall was unveiled last month. The university must accept Munger's approved design, or he'd pull the funding. In 2016, he vowed to donate $200 million US to the University of California, Santa Barbara, to build a new student housing project. Munger is the vice-chair of the multinational conglomerate holding company Berkshire Hathaway. ![]() ![]() 2, 2021.īillionaire Charles Munger is standing by his concept for a massive California dormitory that's been compared to a prison for students. Taco mas12/19/2023 ![]() ![]() Sitting right at the juncture of South Lamar and West Mary, the building Masa y Más occupies jumps out at drivers with a festive mural proclaiming, "Soy porque somos" ("I am because we are"). ![]() Cerveza, cocktails, and wine are available to diners, too. Be sure to sample the tamarind or strawberry horchata when they are in rotation before selecting the perfect sweet drink. This one will delight kids of all ages, as will the aguas frescas. There are added flavors available, such as caramel, matcha, and chocolate, but taking it straight might just be the way to go. The dulce here is called a Fro*chata and as the name implies, it's frozen horchata. The dessert portion of the Masa y Más menu is small but mighty. When was the last time salsa exceeded expectations? Definitely get some to take home. This bold concoction is made with beer, of all things, and would be an improvement over most table hot sauces in the Tex-Mex world. However, the humble salsa is anything but. The starters are fine the queso and guacamole are serviceable. This mural at Masa Y Más beckons drivers on South Lamar ![]() The frijoles in both charros and refried versions are delightful, with the latter made of black beans for a nice Austin touch. The rice is packed with flavor and has an absolutely perfect texture. Luckily, the arroz Mexicano and frijoles are as good or better than any. The roasted beets seemed more boiled than baked, and the elote callejero would have been better served plain than drenched in huitlacoche mayo. Despite this, they fall short of comparable dishes around town. The Brussels sprouts are topped with arbol hot honey, pumpkin seeds, and cotija cheese. Several offerings look absolutely tremendous on the page but fail in practice. Some might balk at the price tag on these tacos, which hang out at about $5 each (some more, some less), but they are generously filled, which lessens the sting a bit. Likewise, the vegetarian option with its mushrooms and potatoes will please all comers. This is a very simple food, but when done right, as it is here, the results are sublime. The can't-miss taco at Masa y Más, though, turns out to be the carnitas. The al pastor looks the part, but fails to deliver. The most pleasant surprise is the camarones taco, which has battered shrimp that is eerily similar to the honey walnut prawns one might find at a Chinese restaurant. While it's definitely on the greasy side, that's a selling point for this unctuous meat. Barbacoa is usually rich, and this version is no exception. The birria comes with traditional consommé for dipping (or slurping), and while it's no longer a surprise seeing it on a menu, this one is a fine example of the form. The suadero taco features seasoned brisket, an easy call in this barbecue-crazy town. The results are mostly good and occasionally great. The interior of Masa Y Más is bright and vibrantĬomprising eight offerings (with more as weekend specials), these tortilla-based entrées are why most people will walk through the door. ![]()

Glute amnesia syndrome12/19/2023 ![]() Drop down without touching the floor and lift again. Lift your pelvis until it forms a straight line with your back. Lay on your back on the floor with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Pelvic lifts, or bridges, are a classic option. ![]() Increasing pelvic stability means that you are re-training your muscles to pull the pelvis back into a neutral position so that your gluteal muscles can be activated efficiently. You can increase pelvic stability while simultaneously decreasing knee and back pain with the right exercises. The forward tilt of the pelvis stretches your gluteals into a relaxed state which decreases your ability to properly activate them. ![]() This occurs when the pelvis tilts forward and the stomach protrudes. A postural flaw that can lead to gluteal amnesia is known as anterior pelvic tilt. Posture plays an important factor in gluteal activation. Other movement impairments to look for are the anterior travel of the knees (shifting forward during the squat), and excessive curvature of the lumbar (lower back) spine. If your knees cave inward to the inside of your feet, you need to work on gluteal activation until you can do this exercise easily with your knees in line with your second and third toes, or the tip of your shoe. Face the mirror so that you can see how your knees move during the squat. You can quickly test the stability of your core by doing a few overhead squats in front of a mirror. However, tight muscles don’t always mean there is a flexibility issue, but could indicate an activation problem.Ĭore stability, or pelvic stability, is essential for a healthy body. Usually personal trainers and fitness enthusiasts attempt to correct tight hamstrings and groins by performing an endless amount of stretches. This will put greater strain on areas like your knees, groin, or lower back. If your gluteal muscles become too weak, the hamstrings and the adductor magnus will begin to pick up the slack for the jobs that they can no longer do. This is especially true if you have normal flexibility in your hamstrings. One sign is a feeling of tightness in your hamstrings after you do glute dominant exercises such as deadlifts, pull-throughs, and step-ups. So How Will You Know If You Suffer From Gluteal Amnesia? Not landing properly from jumps (i.e., landing from a rebound in basketball).Soft tissue contractures (i.e., tight hip flexors and low back extensors).Too many quadriceps dominant exercises.Other causes of gluteal amnesia are as follows: In order words, overactive hip flexors “turn off” the gluteus maximus. Your hip flexors become tighter which leads to reciprocal inhibition of the gluteals. ![]() Prolonged sitting adds to gluteal amnesia. However, when you sit for long periods of time, you are not using your gluteal muscles. Another important job that the gluteus maximus does is assist in maintaining an upright torso. The gluteus maximus is involved in hip extension and external rotation, and decelerates hip flexion and internal rotation. These muscles control movement at the hip and knee. The gluteal muscles include the gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus, and the gluteus medius. Fortunately, you can reverse this condition with the right corrective exercises. As a result, you may lose the ability to move your hips through a full range of motion which adds stress to your knee, lower back, and even your shoulder joints! Common injuries associated with gluteal amnesia are patellofemoral pain syndrome, Iliotibial Band Syndrome, Disc Herniation, and Piriformis Syndrome. This is a condition where your body can’t or forgets how to properly activate the gluteal muscles, whether it’s due to postural flaws or lack of use. If you suffer from nagging knee, lower back, shoulder, or groin injuries, you could be suffering from a condition known as gluteal amnesia. This is great if you have a well-balanced exercise program, but it can spell disaster for a sedentary lifestyle. As strange as it may sound, your body really does have a memory all on its own, and it will remember and respond to your activities. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, you may be so worried about what your brain can remember that you don’t even think about the memory of your muscles. ![]()

When it was first launched, people decided which flavor to drink based on what color of Gatorade was available: green, orange, or red. Since its initial development, Gatorade’s range of beverages has expanded from two original flavors, Lemon-Lime Gatorade and Orange Gatorade, to three in 1982 with the addition of Fruit Punch. Monet impression sunrise seine12/18/2023 ![]() Sadly, the work was interrupted – Monet had no money for rent and he gave the half-ready piece to his landlord in lieu of payment. Spurred on by his achievements, Claude Monet began to paint a huge canvas that would depict many life-size figures at once, Luncheon on the Grass. Was it a true work of Monet – such a work that fully embodied his character and talent? No, not yet. Some experts even compared Monet with the old masters. The academicians and critics highly praised the artist’s handling of the fabric in which the model’s dress was made. At the next salon, he submitted a full-length portrait of his mistress Camille Doncieux – The Woman in a Green Dress. Monet’s debut was successful, albeit not really bright. A critic wrote in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts about Monet’s “‘feel for color harmonies in an interplay of related tones” and “his daring way of seeing and of enforcing our attention.” The Success is Close The press found them as favorable as the Academy. These landscapes easily passed the qualifying stage and were presented at the Salon of 1865. The works were rendered in relatively dark hues befitting a serious painting and featured elaborated details. In both paintings, Monet refrained from any obvious hint of modernity. An early painting by Monet, La Pointe de la Hève at Low Tide He painted two “right” works – the first of them depicted a seaside scene (see the picture below), the second portrayed boats on the mouth of the Seine. Portraits and landscapes were also considered acceptable – on the condition that the artist idealized the model or nature.Ĭlaude Monet initially attempted to achieve success in the conventional way – through Salon. With regard to the subject matter, preference was given to uplifting mythological and historical canvases. The learned society welcomed only those who applied a highly finished technique without any visible strokes. ![]() Not every painter was able to offer works that could meet the strict standards of the Salon jury. It let recognized painters sell their recent works and provided talented beginners a chance to be noticed. The Academy regularly organized the greatest art event that shaped public taste – the official exhibition named Salon. When Oscar-Claude Monet first started his career, the Parisian Academy of Fine Arts confidently set the tone in Western art. It is hard to believe that such a nice painting, as well as many other works similar to this one, drew harsh criticism just a century and a half ago. Its strokes are bold its colors are pleasing to the eye. The picture represents a misty morning in a port. The bench put in front of this wall appears to invite the viewer to have a seat and think carefully about the work. Starmix l 163512/18/2023 ![]() ![]() OK, I heard back overnight from my contact at Starmix as well as several of the many retailers I contacted.
